Offering Individual Support

Samaritans is proud to offer disability support that is flexible and inclusive of individual needs.  This couldn’t be truer for sisters Lucy and Holly, who have enjoyed Host Family Care with Shirley every weekend for the last 17 years.

Holly aged 23 and Lucy aged 19, have benefited greatly from care in a friendly home environment where they can enjoy doing the things the love such as going out for dinner, swimming lessons, horse riding and volunteering at the local soccer club canteen.  Over the years the sisters have developed a close relationship with Shirley and fondly refer to her as Grandma.

“I like spending time with Grandma.

“She takes me to dancing lessons with Miss Prue and always comes to my concerts,” Lucy said.

For Shirley, being a host carer is very rewarding. “The day I met Holly and Lucy was one of the happiest day of my life,” she said.

Samaritans Host Family Care offers short-term breaks for people with a disability, which is provided by a volunteer host.  This type of support provides a cost effective alternative for respite care and also gives an opportunity to develop natural relationships and social skills.

Samaritans offers an extensive range of flexible disability services so that individuals have voice and control to choose their own supports.  To find out more about Samaritans disability services and how we can support NDIS participants click here or call 1300 656 336.
