A huge thank you to our generous community who supported our headspace Maitland and Cessnock teams in this year’s Push-up Challenge! The teams raised a remarkable $22,585 for our centres and achieved a total number of 185,472 push-ups over 25 days.
The Push-Up Challenge is Australia’s largest mental health and fitness event. It is a unique way to get fit, learn and connect people in mental health. Running over the first three weeks of June, participants were tasked to complete 3,318 push-ups, representing the number of Australian’s who died by suicide in 2019. The number of push-ups each day changed to reflect a vital mental health statistic.
Dungog High School student team, ‘Yeah the Boys’, were the local challenge champions, completing 19, 802 push-ups and raising an incredible $16,550 for our headspace Centres, ranking 17th highest fundraisers in the country and first in the education sector.
It was so lovely to see the energy and enthusiasm that the students had for this challenge. They took it very seriously from the get-go. I saw them promote the challenge at their school assembly and watched as the Dungog community banded together to support them. It was really inspiring to witness.
The funds raised will go on to help headspace provide mental health and wellbeing support for young people aged 12-25 in Maitland, Cessnock and surrounding areas.
Thank you to our headspace teams for making this happen!
