Working together for the common good
Quite a few inspiring stories of communities working together for the common good over the past week or two.
For example the wonderful volunteers who responded to the danger of bush fires across NSW – modern day warriors protecting their neighbours from danger.
The annual pink ribbon day has attracted the support of thousands and produced a groundswell of people working towards improved treatment and early detection.
The survival rate from breast cancer has increased to 89% as a result.
The annual mental health month has inspired activities across the region.
Samaritans held its inaugural Movin’ the Mood festival in Newcastle and several Samaritans teams joined in the annual Good Samaritans Day across the region.
ARAFMI organised its annual ‘Walk of Pride’ and at last night’s candlelight vigil at Christ Church Cathedral the consumer choir ‘Under Construction’ were outstanding. Attitudes towards mental health are changing.
All the events demonstrated what can be achieved when people pull together. Human beings are social beings and when we work together for the common good, great things happen!
