Where would you rather have a baby?
If you are awaiting the birth of a new baby this year where would you rather be:
- Sweden (which offers 90 weeks paid parental leave)
- Australia (which offers 18 weeks paid parental leave)
- USA (which offers 12 weeks unpaid parental leave)
I would vote for Sweden – described as one of the best countries in the world to be a child.
Sweden gets the best results for working families. 81% of children have a mum in the workforce and 92% of children have a dad in the workforce.
That’s better than us and much better than the USA.
If we really want to help ‘working families’, paid parental leave and affordable childcare should be part of the policy mix.
