Think again Housing NSW

CEO Social Justice Blog

Last week Housing NSW announced that in future tenants in public housing would pay additional rent if they refused to relocate once their children had grown up and left home. This seems harsh.

By all means give these tenants the opportunity to downsize, however some tenants may not want to move.

Perhaps their children or grandchildren may wish to stay over when they visit. Perhaps they feel really safe and secure in their current home.

The Tenants Union advises that the additional bedroom tax could reduce weekly income in some cases to $21 per week. This would be ridiculous.

Think again Housing NSW. There are better ways to respond to the housing crisis in NSW.
