Kaiyu (pronounced Kie-You) is a word from the Awabakal language “to have power and ability“.
Kaiyu is a drop-in centre for people with a primary mental health diagnosis. Our centre provides a safe space to focus on wellbeing, recovery and connection with others.
Our programs develop opportunities and support within Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter to assist people living with a mental illness or psychiatric disability to have satisfying and valued lives as full members of the community.
Services
Kaiyu encourages self-care, skill building and a sense of belonging to community by offering programs that provide social and skill development activities with a focus on social inclusion.
At Kaiyu, we can facilitate/provide support with:
- Social connections
- Art therapy
- Yoga and wellness activities
- Community outings
- Wellbeing and recovery
- Clinician visits from Hunter New England Health (HNEH)
Who we assist
Kaiyu Konnect can assist people who:
- Are over 18 years of age
- Have a history of mental illness
Referrals
Referrals can be made by:
- Community agencies
- Caregivers
- Service providers
- Self-referrals
Kaiyu is funded by Hunter New England Health (HNEH)
