Samaritans Homeless Youth Assistance Program
Samaritans can help with brokerage funds to support young people at risk of homelessness through our HYAP and FOCAS programs.
What is HYAP?
The Homeless Youth Assistance Program (HYAP) is a brokerage and support service for the community sector supporting young people aged 12-15 years. HYAP is available to support young people who are connected to a Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS) in the Hunter and New England Area Health Districts.
How it works:
HYAP is available to support young people who are at risk of homelessness, disengaged in education, have Mental Health, impacted by DV, trauma and/or family breakdown, misuse of D&A and interaction with the justice system and Out of Home Care (OOHC).
Samaritans Family Mediation and Counselling
Samaritans HYAP can also Accredited family mediation services and counselling with a social worker.
What is FOCAS?
Family Outreach Child and Adolescent Service (FOCAS) offers brokerage funds and support for young people aged 12-15 and their families who have been affected by COVID-19.
FOCAS aims to use innovative strategies to overcome challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home guidelines to deliver essential support to young people.
FOCAS Brokerage funding can be used for:
- Cultural-specific expenses
(e.g. cultural event, interpreting service)
- Family Restoration
(e.g. family mediation, family counselling, parenting course)
- Early intervention
(e.g. counselling, group work)
- Clinical support
(e.g. counselling with psychologist or social worker)
