Woodberry Early Learning Centre (WELC) is a non-profit community-based child care service, sponsored and managed by Samaritans. The centre is staffed by a dedicated team who are committed to providing high quality child care for your children.

We provide high quality care for children aged from 6 weeks to 6 years. We are open 8.00am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, 49 weeks per year. We are licenced to cater for 30 children a day.

Our centre’s program is based on the Early Years’ Learning Framework. The children are encouraged to choose from a different range of activities for development and learning while stimulating and challenging their mind and development skills in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Material and experiences are open ended, enabling children to develop creativity and problem solving skills and allowing them to construct their own knowledge. We incorporate an Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander perspective into our program.

Our centre provides a caring, challenging and stimulating envrionment with activities that allow children to develop to their full potential. We also offer a school readiness program for 3-5 year olds, encouraging their skills and knowledge to further prepare them for school.

The centre has 2 playrooms. The room for 0-3 year olds is called Jarjums and the room for 3-5 year olds is called Booris. This allows for a much more flexible environment for the older children and a safer environment for the younger children.

We provide children with nutritious meals which are prepared in our kitchen by a qualified cook. We provide morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late afternoon tea . Our weekly menu is reflective of the cultural diversity of our families.

We accept children from all surrounding suburbs including Maitland, East Maitland and Beresfield. The Centre is situated opposite Francis Greenway High School and is in the Woodberry Family Centre, sharing the building with the Benevolent Society, Catholic Care and Maitland Family Support. We operate for 49 weeks a year, closing at Christmas for 3 weeks.
