Samaritans signs National Communications Charter

Samaritans is now a signatory of the Life in Mind National Communications Charter (The Charter).

The Charter is a resource and uniting document for people in the mental health and suicide prevention sectors, government, organisations and community groups.

Samaritans agrees to support the principles and key messages of The Charter that guide the way we talk about mental illness and suicide.

About The Charter

We all have a role to play in reducing stigma around mental ill-health and suicide, while also promoting help-seeking behaviour.

Developed by Everymind, The Charter is a resource that helps us to communicate in ways that do not harm and that actively work to increase help-seeking and help-offering behaviour and to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide.

The Charter is designed to guide the way we talk about mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, mental ill-health and suicide prevention, with each other in the community.

Samaritans is committed to destigmatizing mental health, and encourages everyone, whether they have experienced mental illness or not, to recognise the importance of looking after our mental health and wellbeing.
