Samaritans Response to COVID-19

We want the community to be aware – Samaritans is still here for you. Our services have had to adapt and some of our buildings have had to close but our teams are still working hard to support people. You can still contact our services via phone, in some services we are organising video appointments, organising for supplies to be picked up safely and connecting you with what you need.

We want to confirm Samaritans commitment to continuing providing support to people in our community, while ensuring everyone’s safety. We will continue to be guided within our response by NSW Health and Government officials and are adapting to the evolving situation each day.

Intake assessments will continue via phone and all follow-up contact and outreach services will continue via phone/email/text message and utilising conferencing tools, until further support is available or unless essential face to face service is required. Supports available for new intake at the current time will vary dependant on age, support needs, eligibility criteria and service capacity.

The Samaritans SHS intake line is still operational- please call 02 4960 7280 or send an email to shs.intake@samaritans.org.au to access our intake service.

Permanency Support Program (PSP)

Samaritans PSP teams in the Hunter and Mudgee continue to operate and support children, carers and families. Whilst the team continues to do this work, most of the home visits where case managers are supporting children and carers will be done through the use of technology.

If carers or children require additional supports, including a face to face visit, this can be arranged by talking to their case manager. For family visits where children spend time with their own birth family and significant others, this is currently being done through the use of technology. If any parent, carer or child requires additional information they should contact their case manager or team leader.
