National Op Shop Week
Samaritans celebrates National Op Shop week on August 23rd-30th, encouraging Australians to clean out their cupboards and donate good quality items to their local charity store.
In the last five years Samaritans Retail Shops have flourished to support our un-funded programs such as Grandparents as Carers and Friendship House, a support service for men exiting prison.
A consolidation of operations has resulted in three thriving stores in Hamilton, Mayfield and Wallsend. To increase efficiencies, we are no longer operating our warehouse, collection bins and pick-ups, but instead ask that all donations please be dropped to a Retail Store.
The success of Samaritans retail stores can also be attributed to our committed volunteers. We rely on a large volunteer base to continue operating. We have over 85 volunteers across all three of our stores. However, we are always on the look-out for more volunteers who are interested in spending some time in their community, forming friendships, and participating in the Samaritans organisation.
Our stores are tailored to meet the specific needs and wants of the local community. Our Hamilton store features vintage style collectibles to compliment the “vibe” of Beaumont street shoppers. Whereas our Wallsend store located in an op-shop “hub” offers a variety of clothes for costume hunters.
Our stores rely heavily on good quality donations, with bric-a-brac items and clothing selling particularly well. There is also a demand for more linen and house-hold items as people in the community are finding it increasingly difficult to afford and budget these items. In an effort to reduce land-fill, items that are not suitable for sale are passed onto a service which provides clothes for 3rd world countries.
Please deliver any donations to one of our stores:
