Lower Hunter Community Connect Day

Connecting the community to services

Community services agencies from the Lower Hunter have partnered to deliver the region’s first Lower Hunter Community Connect Day to be held on Thursday 14th May.

The event is an initiative of the region’s youth and community services and aims connect people within the Lower Hunter to services and supports in a friendly and accessible setting.

The event will provide a one-stop-shop for people from the area to connect with services and supports to better meet their needs.

“On the day, attendees will be able to connect to vital services including accommodation and housing providers, health and wellbeing agencies, legal and financial assistance, employment study and youth programs, as well as general supports for people who are doing it tough or who might be at risk of homelessness,” Liz Murphy-May, Committee Member, said.

“Food and entertainment will also be provided on the day, as well as services who can assist attendees with birth certificates, toiletries and clothing,” she said.

The event is being hosted this year by Maitland Basketball Association who have generously offered us their space for the event.

“Maitland Basketball is very much a part of the Community and it is our pleasure to assist our community to come together to make genuine connections with local supports and services,” Stacy Jacobs, President Maitland Basketball Association, said.

Although similar events happen in larger centres like Newcastle, this initiative will ensure the event and supports are accessible to people who reside in the Cessnock, Maitland and Lower Hunter districts.

Services and agencies are invited to be part of this inaugural Lower Hunter event and can contact Liz Murphy-May at headspace Maitland on 4931 1000 to register their interest.

The Lower Hunter Community Connect Day takes place at Maitland Basketball Stadium, 10 Bent Street Maitland on Thursday 14 May 2020. Community members are welcome to arrive from 9am onwards. Enquiries can be made through Headspace Maitland on 4931 1000.
