Our Disability Supported Accommodation and Vacancies

A disability support website called The Mighty asked readers with disabilities “what are some words everyone should hear about life with a disability?”

There were a range of insightful responses, but one reader, Julie Pratt, hit the nail on the head.

“Essentially, living with a disability is much the same as living without one,” Julie said.

“The difference is, we are forced more often to confront our fears, our mortality, our limitations, as well as consider our blessings and find the positives in life, than the average person is.”

People with disabilities live normal lives – they work, go to school, chase higher education, and have families. However, there are limitations to living with disabilities, and that includes finding reliable, personalised support where it’s needed most – at home.

It’s our goal to provide people living with disabilities the chance to grow their independence at home – limitation free.

Disability Supported Accommodation can help. Keep reading to find out the perks of supported accommodation, how to get access, and what vacancies we have available right now!

The benefits of Disability Supported Accommodation

Disability Supported Accommodation (also known as Supported Independent Living) offers people with disabilities tailored accommodation with as much or as little support as you need.

We tailor accommodation to meet your needs and develop unique models of support, communication, and social opportunities, including:

  • A safe and comfortable home
  • Independent living skills
  • Community participation and access
  • Daily personal supports
  • A chance to make new friends

We have a range of support models available, from casual drop-ins and outreach to round-the-clock in-home support.

Our drop-in model involves staff providing support as needed. Just give us a call and let us know when you need us to visit.

Need more support? Our 24/7 supported accommodation services might be a better fit. A staff member can provide support at home all day, every day, even providing a sleepover model which varies from house-to-house.

Our Disability Supported Accommodation services also include home and apartment vacancies through Samaritans, complete with accessible ramps and easy access to the community.

These homes and apartments are scattered throughout Newcastle, Wickham, the Central Coast, the Mid North Coast, and Hunter Valley. No matter where you are, we can provide support.

Are there any vacancies available with Samaritans?

We have a diverse range of accommodation available for those who need it!

Samaritans have vacant or shared homes and apartments available throughout Newcastle, the Central Coast, and the Hunter Valley, including central suburbs like:

  • Wickham
  • Fletcher
  • Maryville
  • Adamstown
  • Singleton
  • Muswellbrook
  • Tanilba Bay
  • Pampoolah
  • Central Coast
  • Taree

Our supported accommodation is complete with wheelchair access and the potential for in-home or drop-in support. Some houses (including Adamstown) have current residents who would be happy to have another housemate, plus there are multiple support workers trained in disability support and mental health who can visit every day.

Samaritans accommodation is centrally located, encouraging people with disabilities to become more involved with the community. Our Wickham apartment is on the outskirts of Newcastle CBD, and our Adamstown house is a short five kilometre car ride to inner Newcastle.

You will also have support to access transport for appointments and shopping.

Most of all, it’s important to remember that we’re committed to providing personalised support. We’ll tailor our services to meet your unique needs, so you can live life the way you want!

Build your independence and comfort at home with Disability Supported Accommodation

Home should be a safe haven – a place to relax, get comfortable, and be truly yourself.

We want to help encourage people with disabilities to feel uninhibited in the home.

There are limitations for people living with disabilities all over the place, from buildings without wheelchair access, to inaccessible bathroom facilities.

These frustrating scenarios shouldn’t follow you home.

We offer a range of accommodation options including accessible apartments and share houses, as well as flexible in home-care support from qualified workers.

Our friendly, professional staff can drop-in for casual visits and help with whatever support you need, or we can have staff on-site all day, every day – we can even organise sleepovers or night visits, if that’s what you need.

We’re a registered NDIS provider, meaning we can be trusted to help with daily living, improving living arrangements and living skills, plus offering supported independent living.

Samaritans have the skills, accommodation, and friendly staff to support you at home with no hassles or concerns.
