Bean Counters Roll Up for a Good Cause
Local accountants from around the region are again collaborating to raise much needed funds to support youth and education in the Hunter Region.
Half of the funds raised at the annual Bean Counters Ball support Samaritans Student Accommodation in Newcastle which provides a safe place for students to live while they are completing their education.
“Samaritans service supports young people in developing the skills needed to maintain a permanent and stable living arrangement. Many of the young residents have been at risk or are experiencing homelessness when they come to the service,” Committee Chairperson, Joshua Robb, said.
At last year’s event, attendees heard from Natalia who found a permanent place to stay at Samaritans Student Accommodation service in Wickham.
“I was so excited that I would have a place for myself, and that I wouldn’t have to worry about where I might be sleeping at night, or if I would be safe. Because of Samaritans, I have a home,” Natalia said. “Samaritans Student Accommodation is important to me because it has allowed me to focus on myself and to focus on school. I have opportunities; I am able to pursue my hobbies and most importantly, my dreams for the future.
The event is a joint initiative between local members of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and CPA Australia, which has raised almost $150,000 since its launch in 2011.
The proceeds of the ball are also donated to the Hunter TAFE Foundation, providing scholarships supporting youth education in business, accounting or finance.
“We are proud to again partner with Samaritans and the Hunter TAFE Foundation in 2018. The committee believes that our profession has a responsibility to support young people in our community and with the generosity of sponsors and guests, we look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for young people to learn and grow,” Mr Robb said.
350 people from the region’s accounting and business community are expected at the black-tie event at the Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Centre (NEX) on Friday 2nd November, which will this year take a trip to the circus with performances and entertainment from Circus Avalon.
“The committee are dedicated to creating another memorable night and making a difference in the community. We are looking forward to hearing from young people at the event as they share their story and the impact of our support,” Committee Chairperson, Joshua Robb, said.
Guests at the 2018 ball will enjoy live entertainment, as well as the Bean Counters Ball signature lucky dips and raffles to raise money for the cause.
Tickets can be purchased through the Bean Counters Ball website either individually or for a table of 10 and includes beer and wine, a delicious three course meal and entertainment.
“This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. Our Gold Sponsors for the 2018 event include Rapsey Griffiths, Merchant Business Brokers, Jirsch Sutherland, Jenkins Legal, MCG Quantity Surveyors, Daniels Recruitment, NEX and Peter Drayton Wines,” Mr Robb said.
