Important changes to Supported Independent Living (SIL)

If you or someone you support receives Supported Independent Living (SIL) through the NDIS, there are some important changes happening from 1 July 2026.

The changes are designed to make sure SIL providers meet consistent quality and safety standards, giving participants and families greater confidence in the supports they receive.

For many people, there won’t be any immediate changes to the support they receive.

What is changing?

From 1 July 2026, all providers delivering SIL services will need to be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

Previously, some SIL providers could operate without registration.

What does this mean for me?

If your SIL provider is already registered, you don't need to do anything. Your supports can continue as normal.

At Samaritans, we're pleased to reassure participants and families that we are a fully accredited NDIS provider and are registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission until 2029.

This means our SIL services already meet the new requirements and there is no change to the supports we provide.

We’re here to help

You may be thinking about your SIL supports because of the new registration requirements.

Samaritans welcomes new participants.

We provide:

  • Safe, quality supports focused on your individual needs.
  • Experienced and caring support workers.
  • Support to help you live as independently as possible.
  • Person-centred services that put people first.

Whether you’re exploring SIL for the first time or considering your options, our team is here to help you understand what support is available and find the right fit for your goals.
