I need help with food

Samaritans Emergency Relief centres offer food and financial help and are open up to the week before Christmas. They close between Christmas and New Year and reopen mid-January.

I want somewhere to go on Christmas Day

Samaritans is incredibly happy to be able to continue our annual tradition of providing Christmas Day lunch.

Due to COVID-19, the Christmas Day lunch events will look a bit different this year.

  • Instead of a sit-down meal, we will provide takeaway hampers with meals and gifts for all guests.
  • Due to Covid-19 restrictions on public gatherings, there will be no seating or designated seated space. Guests will collect their hamper and take it with them to a location of their choosing.
  • Unfortunately we won't be able to host an event on the Central Coast this year. Covid-safe events will go forward in Newcastle and Singleton. If Covid restrictions tighten, the events will be adapted accordingly. Our events webpage will be kept up to date with the latest information.

These takeaway events are called Christmas Lunch Express and are free for anyone who would like to come along and collect a hamper.

Many people experience hardship, loneliness or isolation at Christmas time. Our lunch is an opportunity to see a friendly face, collect a meal and a gift and feel some joy on Christmas Day.

We are grateful to the huge number of local businesses, community groups and individuals who donate their goods, money and time to making Christmas joyful for others. We couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of the local community.

Keep an eye on our Events page for up-to-date information.
