Valued members of the Samaritans Central Coast community, Robert, Ricky and Julie, recently celebrated over a decade of friendship.
What began as a shared living arrangement at one of our Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes, quickly became something more meaningful, with the three forming lifelong friendships that continue today.
Having shared a home for more than a decade, the trio built a life centered on independence and community.
As their support needs shifted, Samaritans worked closely with Anglican Care to ensure everyone was supported into the environment that best suited their individual needs.
Ricky and Robert transitioned into residential aged care, while Julie transitioned into another SIL home, where she continues to thrive.
The partnership between Newcastle Anglican agencies, Samaritans and Anglican Care, ensured Robert and Ricky experienced a seamless transition into aged care.
Today, Robert and Ricky are living just a few doors apart in the same Anglican Care community, allowing their long-standing friendship to continue, while Julie remains a regular visitor and an important part of their lives.
While they are now taking different paths, the skills, confidence and relationships they developed together will remain with them for years to come.
Together, Robert, Ricky and Julie embraced every opportunity to build their independence. With support from the Samaritans team, they learnt valuable everyday living skills, including cooking, household tasks, managing their home, and joining different community and sports groups.
It has been an absolute privilege to support Robert, Ricky and Julie over the past decade.
While the team will miss supporting Rob and Ricky day-to-day, and seeing Julie around their long-time home, we couldn't be happier as they begin these exciting new chapters.
We wish them all the best in their new homes.
Thank you, Rob, Ricky and Julie, for the laughter, the memories and the joy you've brought to everyone around you. You will always be cherished members of the Samaritans family.
