Celebrating National Volunteer Week
Over the past couple of weeks I have had the pleasure of meeting many of our volunteers at various morning teas hosted by Samaritans in the lead up to National Volunteer Week. I greatly appreciated the opportunity to personally thank each of our volunteers and to recognise members of the volunteer team who are celebrating 10, 20 and even 25 years of service!
One thing that struck me when talking to our volunteers is their passion for what they do – helping others. In our work with vulnerable groups, such as youth, people with a disability and those who are homeless, the compassion demonstrated by volunteers goes a long way.
At Samaritans we are so grateful to have over 450 volunteers engaged with the organisation across a number of services, including Emergency Relief, Disaster Recovery, Retail Shops, Post-Release and more.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation. They play an essential role in supporting our staff in their day-to-day tasks. Many of our services simply could not operate without the assistance of our volunteers, who generously dedicate their time to helping those in need
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2016 is ‘Give Happy. Live Happy’. This is a particularly fitting theme as research shows that volunteers live happier and healthier lives!
Thank you to the volunteers who give back to the community each and every day!
