Samaritans Brighter Futures is an early intervention programme for families in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas with children aged between 0 and 8 years. Brighter Futures provides support and services to promote healthy child development, and strengthen resilience in families.
Samaritans and Wandiyali ATSI, will share lead agency roles in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas. Wandiyali will provide the programme specifically for local indigenous families. These programmes provide early support and services that include:
The goals of the programme are to promote healthy development in children, promote strong, functional and well-supported families, reduce/prevent child abuse and neglect in participating families. Each family joining the programme will actively identify and prioritise their goals for each family member.
Participation in the programme is voluntary and it is anticipated that families will remain in the programme for up to two years. Samaritans will deliver case-management, with family visiting, parenting programmes and child-care being provided by our partner agencies:
