Supporting Children with Additional Needs (SCAN)
The SCAN scheme provides funding to support the access and inclusion of children with additional needs to eligible State only funded children’s services such as Community based Preschools and Occasional Care Centres.
The SCAN scheme is funded by Community Services. Samaritans manages the Scheme in the Hunter and CentralCoast regions.
Target Groups
The target population groups for children with additional needs eligible to access SCAN funds are children with challenging behaviours and children with diagnosed disabilities.
The children in attendance at the eligible services may be between birth and 12 years of age.
Eligible children’s services
NSW children’s services that are State only funded and are not an approved service for the purpose of receiving the Commonwealth Child Care Benefit (CCB) are eligible to apply for SCAN funding.
Generally, eligible services are:
- Preschool
- Occasional care services
- Vacation care services
- Some places in multipurpose services, where these places are State funded only and are not eligible for CCB
