Winter Woollies Week

May 31 to June 6

Register your school, business or community group by downloading the form here. Winter Woollies Week Registration

Winter Woollies Week is about helping others in your local community so consider what you can do to assist Samaritans.

During winter time the numbers of those who require support from Samaritans increase significantly and Emergency Relief services see a growth in the number of people in our local community who become more reliant on the food, clothing and funds that Samaritans aims to provide.

To ensure we always have resources available we encourage you to get involved in Winter Woollies Week this June and offer your support to Samaritans by organising a fundraiser in your parish or workplace or donating through the website.

Wear, Donate and Make your Winter Woollies so that Samaritans can support those in need in our local community this winter.

How can you get involved in Winter Woollies Week?

Some ideas are listed below:

  • Wear your winter woollies (scarf, beanie, ugg boots, gloves etc) to school or work and collect a donation to Samaritans for the privilege of wearing your slippers out!
  • Sell hot chocolate and cookies, or soup to warm you up and donate the proceeds to Samaritans.
  • Make winter woollies: knit and sew scarves, blankets, quilts for those in need.
  • Donate money to the appeal so Samaritans can assist those in your local community.

Curves Onboard with Winter Woollies Week!

As winter draws closer Samaritans is pleased to be working with local Curves clubs to boost our winter appeal collections.

This year Samaritans is the lucky recipient of the annual Curves food drive. From June 1 to 30, Newcastle Hunter Region Curves will collect non-perishable items and donations for Samaritans Winter Appeal.

Even though donating food to those in need is its own reward, the Curves clubs are offering incentives for potential members who participate. Any non-members who donate a bag of food to the appeal between June 1 and 19 can join Curves for free! Curves will waive the cost to join, which is a significant saving.

Tracy Transton of Curves Broadmeadow said, "We hope women in the Hunter will come together and participate in this initiative. Even if you’re not thinking about joining a gym, you can still drop off your donations. There are so many people who need our help."

Samaritans is very grateful for Curves support and is anticipating some significant results given the start at just one of the clubs.

Jodie Page from Salamander Bay Curves said, “Although the Food Drive is yet to begin, so far we have collected over 55kgs!”
