Samaritans is one of Australia’s largest regional welfare organisations. With over 450 employees and 400 volunteers, Samaritans provides a range of services for children, youth, families and those with disabilities. Every week, Samaritans provides assistance to 250 families experiencing disadvantage in our local community. Samaritans provides food and utility vouchers, clothing and referrals but our staff are seeing a growing number of people experiencing homelessness.

Every night there are around 105,000 Australians without safe, secure housing sleeping in cars, squats or ‘couch surfing’ with friends or relatives. Of these, an estimated 12,000 are children under 12! Not the traditional male, late forties ’rough sleeper’; children under 12.

Most of us don’t get through life with out a few bumps in the road and we take for granted the back up of our families but for some it just doesn’t exist. As a locally based organisation, Samaritans is on hand to help people through the rough times and regain hope.

Please download a PDF version of our new organisational brochure to learn a little more about what we do.

Supported by the strength of the Anglican Church, Samaritans is focused on building connections in the community – between clients and services, clients and families, clients and the community, between services and through establishing effective partnerships.

Samaritans is based in the Hunter, Manning and Central Coast Regions and delivers more than 118 welfare and community service programmes in 100 locations, to more than 60,000 people each year.

Our mission: We seek to provide unconditional support to people in their needs and to promote social and economic policies that alleviate human suffering.

The Samaritans Foundation believes that people presently experiencing disadvantage have the right, equally with others, to fully participate in and contribute to community life. Samaritans sees to express God’s care to all people through promoting acceptance, justice, reconciliation, peace and dignity for all.
